Our roots run deep in the fishing industry

Great Southern Seafoods is a family-owned and operated business with a rich heritage in the fishing industry for over 35 years, spanning three generations.

Originally founded in Ceduna, South Australia, we made a huge leap of faith by moving our operations to Albany. We have been operating at our state-of-the-art facility since 2004, supporting the local commercial fishing industry and providing the community with a fresh seafood store.

As a company, we have transformed Western Australia’s seafood supply chain, empowering the local commercial fishermen to maximise their catch according to weather conditions rather than logistical constraints previously imposed by fortnightly truck pickups from WA to SA.

Retail Excellence

Our retail store offers a variety of premium-quality fresh and frozen seafood meticulously caught from various regions throughout Western Australia. Our ever-changing supply ensures a unique selection for our customers each day.

With extensive experience in the industry, our staff is well-educated on our products and consistently accommodates our customers’ needs by providing excellent customer service and advice on the best way to store, prepare, and cook seafood.

The journey home is very important when transporting delicate seafood. We can provide a foam box equipped with ice to maintain the quality of your fish; just ask our team.

Processing

At the heart of our operations, we process our seafood at our on-site facility. Filleting is an acquired skill perfected over many years, and our team is fast, efficient, and reliable, ensuring that your seafood is nothing short of exceptional.

From the moment we unload the commercial fishing vessels, which are then transported to our on-site factory for processing, until the end consumer, we adhere to strict quality control measures through food safety standards and strict temperature control procedures.

At Great Southern Seafoods, we are deeply committed to fostering strong relationships with the community and its positive impacts on families and individuals. With this in mind, we are proud supporters of the Albany Community foundation and proudly sponsor the Royals Football Club, St Joseph’s Junior Soccer teams and Lovett Muay Thai Gym – Nemesis Rising Events.

Shark cartilage and skin are turned into dog treats, and fish offal is used by a local wine producer who uses this byproduct as fertiliser.

We actively reduce plastic usage by offering fully compostable bags for fresh fish in our retail shop.

Our facility utilises collected rainwater, ensuring that we significantly reduce our water usage.

We utilise the power of solar energy, reducing our dependence on non-renewable energy sources wherever possible.
